These mattress protectors are so handy for so many different things. As grandparents these are great to put on the bed when little ones are sleeping over to prevent having to do a major clean up in the morning if there is any diaper leakage. These are also great for when the flu is in the house and people have upset stomachs that create unwanted messes from above or below. So much easier to clean up a mattress cover then to have to strip down a whole bed. Before placing this on a bed I wanted to be confident that this indeed is waterproof. I lay a towel on my countertop and then placed this overtop of the towel. I proceed to spray and wet the one side of the protector with a misting over a larger space, until it was decently wet. On the other side I just pours a large amount of water in one spot to see how it would handle an excessive amount of liquid in one area. I checked underneath the protector immediate after to see if there was any moisture coming through and the towel underneath was dry. I then left it for an hour to see what would happen when the puddle of water absorbed up into it and the towel underneath was still dry. I proceeded to dump some more water onto the already very wet “puddle area” and when I checked an hour later it was still dry underneath. It has passed the test and is ready to be used on the bed. Overall, the top and bottom of these protectors are soft, with the top being a bit softer than the bottom area. These are well sewn with good edging and no loose seams or threads. These fit the width of a twin size bed, adequate covering the bed area for one person if placing on a large size bed. I especially appreciate that this comes as a set with four pads, for quick cleanup and switching to a clean pad. The care instructions say you can machine wash on cold and tumble dry on low heat. I hang mine to dry and it dries super fast. There was no shrinkage after washing.

We've been using them since we have some bad night sweats from time to time and go through towels trying to keep it under control since it makes it impossible to sleep on our beds at night. These have been quite better alternatives to keeping us dry after an episode. They're very comfortable and easy to sleep on too which is a big plus. We're quite happy with them and definitely recommend them over using just towels that can be uncomfortable at night.

I ordered these because I am a 24/7 caregiver for someone who has occasional incontinence. These are basically a backup in case the adult diaper fails and leaks. These are used in two ways in our household. They are placed strategically on the bed so the person's behind is in the center so any accidents will happen on the past instead of on the sheets. The second use is that a pad is placed on the seat of the chair my loved one uses just in case there's any accidents while sitting. It's also a barrier between the person and the chair when they're getting a sponge bath. Other uses could be: if a child is wetting the bed (if they are able to stay on the pad, this might be more comfortable than a rubbery type of mattress protector that crinkles or cause sensory issues), if someone has a temporary incontinence problem due to diarrhea from a stomach bug or food poisoning). If someone is vomiting, putting it under their pillows could protect the top of the bed from vomit. Another good use is using these to put under a baby when changing them if you have a wee guest and no baby stuff is normally in your home. These could be used for guest beds in a pinch (a mattress pad much better in this case) but it might be best to put these under the fitted sheet. There could be other uses that I'm not thinking of. If you are new to caring for someone incontinent or you are incontinent yourself, you'll discover that changing the sheets daily or more than once daily because of accidents can get tiring quickly. Not only do you need to change the sheets, but there's also the extra laundry you have to do. With these, you just remove the soiled pad and put a fresh one in its place. If there's any solid feces, remove it, and any runny stool, you might want to rinse this off before putting in hamper. I use a separate hamper for these. Some people like to spray an enzyme cleaner on the pads before putting them in the laundry. This helps remove odour and stains more effectively than just washing alone. It is recommended that you launder these as soon as you are able to. I found that they can be washed with sheets, though ideally if your washer lets you adjust the water level, it's probably best to do that, rather than wait, if possible. I can recommend these and have used them for two main purposes and every use i mentioned above except for the child bedwetting scenario, but that's not really different than adult bedwetting, except it might be more likely for the child to remove the pad. It's ideal if you are able to have more than one set of these, but it does depend on why you are using them and how many accidents the person might have. If accidents are rare, you might be fine with one set. If the pads aren't soiled, you may not need to change them daily. You could possibly change them more frequently than your sheets to extend the time between washes, or choose to switch out when you wash the sheets weekly or however often. I usually switch these out every few days unless soiled. I consider these an essential for a caregiver to have.
