Good quality cover on top, with a thin plastic on the underside. Does not sound crinkly when you move. The sides are a very thin mesh with no waterproofing. Given the thinness of the plastic underneath, I would describe as water-resitant but have not tested. They claim to be machine washable, however like all protectors with a plastic underside, I would hesitate to put them in an agitator-type washer. I was surprised how loose the sides are on a 14-inch mattress, which allows them to slide up a bit, so they have to be tucked manually underneath. A basic protector at a fair price.
